Managing Apple devices has changed dramatically in the last few years. We have moved from Open Directory and MCX to MDM and DEP over a relatively short period. With technologies such as secure boot and the obsoletion of traditional imaging workflows, the role of the Mac admin is changing faster than ever.
Whilst these changes are undeniably making macOS more secure, the area that we can Apple is allowing us to manage is becoming narrower.
We will dive into some areas that endpoint engineers will need to become familiar with to continue providing their users with the computing experience they need - from provisioning and configuring devices, to ensuring users aren't impeded whilst maintaining a good security posture.
